Backend Development Services That Keep Your Product
AngleBrackets builds the part of your product users never see but always feel: the APIs, databases, business logic and cloud servers behind your web and mobile apps. We work in Node.js, Python and Go with PostgreSQL, Redis and the cloud of your choice, and design every backend to handle ten times today's traffic. Senior engineers, clean documented APIs, and code you own from the first commit.

AI Voice Assistant Development FAQs
We hear these questions on almost every first call. Here are straight answers.
What are backend development services?
Backend development services cover everything that runs behind your app or website: servers, databases, APIs, business logic, user login, integrations and hosting. A backend development company designs, builds, secures and maintains that layer, so your web and mobile apps load fast, store data safely and keep working as your users grow.
How long does it take to build a backend?
An MVP or API backend takes about [4 to 8 weeks]. A full product backend takes [2 to 4 months], and large enterprise or modernization projects take [4 to 9 months] or more, usually released in phases. You see working endpoints at the end of every two-week sprint, so your frontend team never waits for the whole backend.
What is the difference between frontend and backend development?
Frontend development is what users see and click: screens, buttons and layouts in the browser or app. Backend development is what happens behind it: storing data, checking logins, processing payments, running business rules and talking to other systems through APIs. The frontend asks, the backend answers.
Which backend language is best: Node.js, Python, Go or Java?
There is no single best language. Node.js suits real-time apps and JavaScript teams, Python fits data, AI and fast MVPs, Go handles very high traffic with low server cost, and Java or .NET suit large enterprise systems. We choose based on your product, performance needs and the team that will maintain the code.
Should I choose a monolith or microservices?
For most new products, a modular monolith is faster and cheaper to build and run. Microservices make sense when several teams work on one large product or parts of it scale very differently. We often start with a clean modular monolith and split out services only when there is a clear business reason.
Which database should I use for my backend?
If your data has clear relationships, like users, orders and payments, a relational database such as PostgreSQL or MySQL is usually best. NoSQL databases like MongoDB or DynamoDB fit flexible documents or very high write volumes. Redis is added for caching. Many backends use more than one database, each for what it does best.
Can you fix or scale my existing backend?
Yes. We start with a backend audit of your code, database, queries and hosting, then fix the biggest problems first. Typical wins come from adding indexes, caching, background queues and auto-scaling. Many clients see faster response times and lower cloud bills within the first few weeks, without a full rewrite.
Do you build APIs and third-party integrations?
Yes. We build REST, GraphQL and gRPC APIs with OpenAPI documentation, and integrate payment, CRM, ERP, email, SMS, maps, shipping and AI services such as Stripe, HubSpot, Salesforce, Twilio and OpenAI. Every integration includes retries, logging and alerts, so failed calls are caught and fixed instead of silently lost.
How do you keep a backend secure?
We follow the OWASP API Security Top 10, encrypt data in transit and at rest, store secrets in a vault, enforce role-based access on every API call and add rate limiting. Automated security scans run in the CI/CD pipeline. For regulated products we build the controls and audit logs needed for HIPAA, GDPR, PCI DSS or SOC 2 readiness.
Will I own the source code and data?
Yes. All source code lives in your Git repository from the first commit, and the cloud accounts, databases and domains are in your name. You get full documentation and a handover session, and there are no licence fees or lock-in, so you can move development in-house whenever you want.
Do you provide backend maintenance and support after launch?
Yes. Our monthly support plans include uptime monitoring, bug fixes, security patches, dependency upgrades, performance tuning and new features. Plans start from about [$1,500 per month], with agreed response times, and you can scale the plan up or down as your product changes.
Can you migrate us off Firebase, Supabase or a no-code backend?
Yes. We map your current data, rules and functions, build the new custom backend alongside the old one, move data in stages and switch traffic over with no lost records. Most migrations finish in [4 to 10 weeks], depending on data size and how many apps connect to the old backend.
Can I hire dedicated backend developers instead of a full project?
Yes. You can hire one or more dedicated backend developers who join your team, work in your time zone and use your tools, on a monthly contract. It suits companies that already have a product manager or tech lead and need extra senior backend hands. See our hire backend developers page for details.
How do I get started with AngleBrackets?
